A new seaside retreat is coming to Awaji Island. AWAJI LAGOON SUITES Tenrei, due to open on Friday, January 29, 2027 on the Komoe coast in Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture, began taking reservations on Sunday, November 1, 2026. It is an all-suite hotel with an outdoor onsen (hot spring) bath in every one of its 25 rooms.
The hotel is developed by Hotel New Awaji, headquartered in Sumoto. In the exterior rendering, a pool stretches out in front of the white building facing the sea and continues straight onto the beach. It looks like a stay on an island close to Kobe and Osaka, where the hotel itself is the destination.
Suites of about 100 m² or more, each with an outdoor onsen bath
The rooms are split between a hotel wing and a villa wing, set in locations with different characters. Every room is about 100 m² or larger, with views of a sea and sky that change from moment to moment. Each room has its own private onsen, so guests can enjoy the bath without worrying about anyone else.
Of the 25 rooms, one has a private onsen pool, and another has a sauna plus a private onsen pool. The hot spring is Sumoto Onsen “Uruoi no Yu” (alkaline simple spring).
A dining room of Awaji ingredients and a rooftop terrace over the sea
Inside is a dining room serving dishes that make use of Awaji Island’s rich ingredients. The main dining room sits right by the sea, so you can look out over the water as you eat.
The top floor has a rooftop terrace and guest lounge with a full view of the Kitan Strait. Guests can also tour the varied onsen at the facilities of the Hotel New Awaji Group. It offers a taste of the island’s hot-spring culture beyond the bath in your own room.
