The first laughs of 2027 will be next to Osaka Castle. “Shinshun Laugh Fes in Morinomiya 2027” (Shinshun = New Year), the comedy festival Yoshimoto puts on each year, runs for three days, from Saturday, January 9 to Monday, January 11 (a national holiday), 2027, at COOL JAPAN PARK OSAKA TT Hall in Chuo-ku, Osaka. Comedians from across agency lines gather for special live shows you can only see at Laugh Fes.
Part of Laugh Fes’s appeal is seeing comedians from Tokyo and Osaka on the same stage. Here is a rundown of the three days.
Saturday, January 9: four shows where east meets west
Day one has four shows. The 11:00 show, “New York × Kuroobi: Kuro-York,” is the first two-man live by the peers New York and 黒帯 (Kuroobi), who sharpened their acts in Tokyo and Osaka respectively. Besides each pair’s routines, a nerve-racking corner is promised.
At 14:00, “Forming the Kansai Branch of the Everse Corps” brings together notable Kansai comedians connected to Everse to witness the founding of the group. The lineup is Everse, Gyobu, Sanyuken, 九ノ段 and Shikano Shinpu, with Ai Love Earth and Kono of the Year as MCs.
The 17:00 show is the second “Shabugyo Machida: Nationwide Tour Kickoff.” Everse’s 町田, a devoted shabu-shabu fan, invites comedian friends to a show of manzai and a shabu-shabu corner. Guests include Kabeposter, Double Higashi and Yoneda 2000. Shabu-shabu is not served to the audience.
The night show at 20:15 is “A Live to Beat Everyone Who Badmouthed 京極風斗, in Osaka.” The live first held at Shibuya Yoshimoto Manzai Theater comes to Osaka. 9bangai Retro’s 京極 takes on those who have talked behind his back in a comedy face-off. Kinzoku Bat’s 友保, Everse’s 佐々木, Mezon’s 吉野, Daio and others appear, with Roger Okinawa as MC.
Sunday, January 10: a family show, then beauty talk
The morning show is “New Year Hatsuwarai Special! Laugh with Your Kids! Wakuwaku Kids Comedy Live!” Two Tribe, Rainbow, Don Decorte, Batterys, Yoneda 2000 and others perform kid-friendly material. Voices are welcome in the hall, so it looks easy to enjoy with small children.
In the afternoon, Yoshimoto Biyoubu (Yoshimoto Beauty Club), which marks its first anniversary, makes its Laugh Fes debut. Silk, Rainbow’s 池田, Gion’s 木﨑 and others talk about beauty tips and favorite items with plenty of laughs. The MC is The Plan 9’s 浅越ゴエ.
Monday, January 11 (holiday): New Year fortunes, a puzzle game and pork buns
The final day opens at 11:00 with “Warau Kado ni wa Fuku Kitaru! New Year Good-Luck Comedy Live 2027” (“Fortune comes to those who laugh”). It runs 90 minutes with comedy and fortune-telling, featuring Dr. Heinrich, Kinzoku Bat, Miki, Don Decorte, Batterys and others.
The 14:15 show, “That Day, We Wanted Rosyoki,” was born from the M-1 tour final in Kobe. The performers had looked forward to Rosyoki’s pork buns, but they were sold out. The comedians from that tour now gather to finally eat them. Miki, Gokai Captain, Kabeposter, 例えば炎, Kanamestone and others appear, with full cooperation from Rosyoki Co., Ltd.
The 18:00 show combines comedy and an escape-style puzzle game: “Solve the Mystery with the Comedians!? Stop the Earth Invasion Plan.” Aliens suddenly appear at a comedy live, lock every door of the theater and give humans an intelligence test. Comedians and the audience team up to solve puzzles and escape. Human Nakamura appears, with guests including Kinzoku Bat; puzzles are by Kuroneko Cube (IKUSA Inc.).
