Kansai museums offer free admission — “Kansai Culture Day” centers on November 14–15, 2026

This autumn, you can tour Kansai’s museums for free. “Kansai Culture Day,” when museums and other cultural facilities waive their admission fees, returns with Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, 2026 as its central days. This is the 24th edition, with 473 participating facilities (as of October 8).

Free admission to museums and galleries across Kansai

Kansai Culture Day is an initiative in which museums, art galleries and other cultural facilities in the Kansai area make admission free, in principle for their permanent exhibitions. Its aim is to let people enjoy the culture Kansai has nurtured over its long history. The poster says “over 400 facilities offer free admission,” and facilities that are always free are also part of the event.

It is organized by the Union of Kansai Governments, the Kansai Tourism Bureau and the Kansai Genki Culture Council, with the hope that people will rediscover the appeal of their own region.

November 14–15 are the central days, but dates vary by facility

One thing to keep in mind: not every facility is free on November 14 and 15. Those two days are the central days, and each registered facility sets its own date within November. Once you have picked a place to visit, check its set date first.

Participating facilities are in Fukui, Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Wakayama, Tottori and Tokushima prefectures, plus Kyoto City, Osaka City, Sakai City and Kobe City. Not only central Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, but also facilities in Shiga, Nara and Wakayama are included.

Check the official website for dates and participation

Details such as each facility’s set date and access are on the official website. The poster notes that registrations are still being updated and asks visitors to check each facility’s official website for the latest opening information. A little checking before you go will save trouble.

“Why not enjoy the art of autumn?” is the organizers’ invitation. For exhibition rooms you have skipped because of the admission fee, this is an easy time to step in.
