Bring your dog to Awaji Island: a private villa with a 1,600 m² dog run opens at Awaji Sauna Glamping Meri

How about a trip to Awaji Island with your dog, with a whole garden to yourselves? In July 2026, Awaji Sauna Glamping Meri in Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture, opened a private “Suite Villa” where guests can stay with their dogs. Only villa guests can use its 1,600 m² dog run, and the villa also comes with its own sauna and pool.

A 1,600 m² private dog run, with no other dogs to worry about

The villa sits a little apart from the other rooms. In front of it is a 1,600 m² dog run that only the villa’s guests can enter. Because the space is yours alone, your dog can go off the lead and chase a ball without you having to keep an eye on other dogs.

For days when rain or strong sun is a concern, there is a 5 m × 12 m covered dog run. There is also a pool just for dogs, a welcome feature for those who love water. Owners of large dogs often choose an inn by how much room there is, and having the whole garden to one group should make the trip feel relaxed.

No limit on breed or number of dogs, and a large-dog crate in the room

Stays with dogs have no limit on breed or number. Large dogs and families with several dogs are welcome. The room has four double beds and sleeps up to eight people, so it also suits trips with friends or two families together.

Provided in the villa are a large-dog-size crate, food bowls, pet sheets, waste bags and toys. With the travel essentials already there, you can pack lighter.

After the dog plays, owners can unwind in their own sauna

Owners have something to look forward to as well. The villa has a private sauna, a cold plunge and an outdoor cooling area, where you can rest in a chair and look out over the garden after the sauna. There is also a private pool for owners, where you can float or relax on the poolside.

Watching your dog run around, then sweating it out in the sauna: the villa’s facilities make that kind of holiday easy to picture.

Dinner with Awaji flavors, plus dog meals and an anniversary mousse

For dinner there is a glamping barbecue featuring Awaji Island ingredients, along with plans for shabu-shabu and sukiyaki made with Awaji beef. You can grill on the private terrace and share the table with family, friends and your dog. Breakfast the next morning is a bagel sandwich set. Whether meals are included and what they contain depend on the plan and options you choose.

Dogs have their own meals too, with a choice of three: teriyaki chicken steak, pork sauté or a hamburger plate. For birthdays and other anniversaries there is a dog anniversary mousse. The dog meals and the mousse cost extra and must be ordered in advance on the booking site.

Opening celebration “Dog Lovers’ Support Plan” on sale now

To mark the new villa, a “Dog Lovers’ Support Plan” is on sale. It offers up to 20% off the room rate on selected dates and one dog-only sweet per dog. Meals can be room-only, or you can bring your own, or add dinner and breakfast as options. Opening-celebration plans with seasonal perks are also available. Check the booking page for eligible dates and prices.
