If you are planning an aquarium trip this autumn, the Culture Day holiday could be a good day to pick up some disaster-prevention know-how too. At Kobe Suma Sea World in Suma-ku, Kobe, the Suma Fire Station of the Kobe City Fire Bureau is holding “Suma Il Bosai 2026 – Autumn Fire Prevention Campaign at Kobe Suma Sea World” on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 (a national holiday), from 10:30 to 12:30.
Smoke, ropes and AR: learn disaster prevention by doing
The venue is lined with hands-on activities: an evacuation experience in a smoke house that simulates the dense smoke of a fire, a rope-crossing rescue experience, and an AR (augmented reality) fire simulation. There are also fire-extinguishing practice with a water extinguisher and CPR training using an AED.
The aim is for adults and children alike to learn about fire safety and how to protect themselves in a way that feels like play. Because the content suits the whole family, it is an easy choice for a holiday outing.
Photos with a big fire engine, and mascots to cheer you on
One highlight is the display of the “Dragon Hyper Command Unit,” a large fire vehicle said to be the only one of its kind in Hyogo Prefecture. A corner where children can put on child-sized firefighting gear and have their photo taken in front of the vehicle is also planned.

Ukan, the official mascot of the Kobe City Fire Bureau, and Orushi, the official mascot of Kobe Suma Sea World, will also stop by to liven up the event. A shot of the orca-like Orushi next to Ukan in a fire helmet may well be on the cards.
Free to join, but aquarium admission is required
Taking part is free, but you need to buy aquarium admission separately; the event cannot be joined on its own. In other words, you can enjoy the aquarium at a relaxed pace and fit the disaster-prevention activities into the morning. Content may change or be cancelled without notice depending on the weather.
Kobe Suma Sea World opened on June 1, 2024 as the only facility in western Japan with orca performances. It promotes a blend of learning (“Education”) and play (“Entertainment”), and this event fits that idea well.
