MoMA Design Store’s holiday decor, incl. a Monet “Water Lilies” tree light, goes on sale Nov 10 — also in Shinsaibashi and Kyoto

This Christmas, why not bring a famous painting into your living room? MoMA Design Store, the museum shop of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, will begin releasing its holiday cards and decorations in stages from Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at its online store and at its shops. There are stores in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, and in Kyoto, so you can pick them up in Kansai too.

The “Water Lilies Spinning LED Tree Light” casts Monet’s water surface across the room

The star of the lineup is a tree light inspired by Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” (1914–26), which is in MoMA’s collection. Made of electroplated glass with a built-in warm LED, it spins as it glows, and in a dark room it throws swirls of colorful light onto the wall — meant to recall the shimmer of the water Monet painted. It is a MoMA Exclusive priced at ¥10,010 (tax included, planned).

Also in the lineup is the “Starry Night Rotary Candle Holder” (¥3,190, tax included, planned), with motifs inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” (1889). Light a candle and set it in the stand, and the warm rising air makes the motifs turn.

Felt ornaments full of New York life, and a miniature toy shop

There is plenty of playfulness too. The “MoMA Felt Ornaments” are made by Craftspring, a Brooklyn-based brand. They come in six designs — Pigeon with Hoodie, Polaroid, Postcard, Artist Tool Mug, Ugly Christmas Sweater and Artist Bear — at ¥4,180–¥6,710 (tax included, planned). Inspired by everyday New York scenes and culture, they are also suggested as gifts for travel lovers.

The range also includes the handmade felt “Winter Woodland Wreath” (¥7,480, tax included), the build-it-yourself “Rollife DIY Santa’s Toy Shop,” a miniature of a toy shop on a classic European street (¥4,510, tax included), and mouth-blown glass “Miffy Glass Ornaments” by Amsterdam brand VONDELS, in three designs — Snow Sled, Mondrian and Artist — at ¥6,600 each (tax included).

Holiday cards, a MoMA tradition since the 1940s

Since the 1940s MoMA has commissioned artists to create original holiday cards. The designs have evolved from flat cards to pop-ups and three-dimensional paper crafts. The 2026 collection has eight designs: Shimmering Tree, Birdsong & Berries, MoMA Pattern Skyline, Winter Wonder, Dashing Through the Snow, Bohemian Christmas Tree, North Pole Greetings and Santa in Clouds. Each costs ¥4,950 (tax included) for a set of eight, or ¥682 for a single card.
