“My First Orchestra from Age 0” winter concert at Westy in Sakai, Osaka on Nov 15, with a violin try-out corner

If you have a little one and want them to hear a real orchestra, this one is for families in Sakai. A winter edition of “My First Orchestra from Age 0” takes place on Sunday, November 15, 2026 at Sakai City Nishi Cultural Hall “Westy” in Sakai, Osaka. The performers are Salon Orchestra Japan, a group with many TV appearances.

The theme is winter — and the whole family waltzes along

This time the theme is winter. The program includes “The Skaters’ Waltz,” which evokes gliding across ice; “Oni no Pantsu” (the Japanese version of “Funiculì, Funiculà”), which parents and kids can hum together; and the lively “Merry Widow March.” They are all familiar tunes.

The concert is not just about listening. A participatory “Let’s dance the waltz!” segment invites the whole family to move along with the music. Salon Orchestra Japan is made up of musicians chosen by audition and gives about 350 performances a year across Japan. Although the ensemble is small, it is said to deliver powerful live sound along with fun, chatty commentary. The number of performers and the program may change.

Touch a real violin before the show

From doors opening until the concert starts, a “musical instrument corner” is open. Children can touch a real violin and play with toy instruments, feeling the vibrations and the texture of the instruments with their own hands.

Getting acquainted with an instrument first should make the performance feel much closer.

Crying is fine — nursing room and stroller parking provided

The organizers’ motto is that crying and moving around are both okay. Many parents give up on live music for fear of disturbing others, so the venue provides a nursing room, a diaper-changing space and stroller parking, so even first-time concertgoers can relax.

There are also photo props: a face-in-hole panel where you can pose in a dress and accessories, and a photo session with the performers, so you can take home a winter memory.

For access, get off the bus at “Nishi Kuyakusho-mae” (Nishi Ward Office) and the venue is right there. If you drive, the Sakai City Nishi Ward Office parking lot is available. With strollers in tow, easy directions are a real help.
