Autumn kaiseki and Yodogawa fireworks from a rooftop — a one-night tasting at Nishida Building in Osaka Nakatsu on Oct 17

Just a short hop from Umeda, Nakatsu in Osaka is set for an evening that pairs autumn kaiseki (Japanese course dining) with fireworks over the Yodogawa River. On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the “Autumn Marriage Tasting” (Aki no Mariage Shomikai) takes place at the Laugh Out Kitchen on the 3rd floor of Nishida Building, featuring a full Japanese course made with autumn ingredients from Tanba and Tango in Kyoto. It is a one-night event limited to 20 guests.

An autumn course from Fukuchiyama’s “Ichien”, paired with Towa Shuzo sake

The food comes from Ichien, a Japanese restaurant in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture. Owner-chef 円城寺利之 is preparing a special full course just for the day. The dining runs from 17:00 to 19:00 (check-in from 16:45), with sake from Towa Shuzo.

Deep-fried Yura River ayu (sweetfish) on a blue-and-white plate with a maple leaf and ginkgo nuts

Example dishes: the opening course of full-moon yoro tofu with dashi, raw sea urchin and okra; appetizers of a small crab chawanmushi (savory egg custard) and Tanba wild boar cutlet with dengaku miso; and sashimi including kelp-cured, lightly seared nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) and medium-fatty bluefin tuna. The main dish is a shabu-shabu of large conger eel and matsutake mushrooms, followed by five pieces of nigiri sushi, a clear soup of Wakasa guji (tilefish) and matsutake in a sake-lees base, and desserts of homemade apple pudding and Tanba chestnut yokan. Deep-fried Yura River ayu (sweetfish) is also among the dishes introduced.

Sashimi on a red square plate: tuna, white fish, squid, okra and wasabi

Drinks are all-you-can-drink: beer, shochu, sake and highballs, plus soft drinks such as oolong tea and cola. The menu may change depending on ingredient availability.

From 19:00, fireworks from a rooftop seat

From 19:00 to 20:00, guests move up to a special viewing area on the rooftop to watch the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival in a calm setting. Restrooms inside the building are freely available, so there is no need to worry about crowds or lines. After a full course, heading straight to the roof to look up at the sky is part of what makes this event special.

The same day: free food market “Farmers Tables @ Nakatsu”

On October 17 from 11:00 to 21:00 (with a break from 14:00 to 16:00), Nishida Building also hosts the food market “Farmers Tables @ Nakatsu”. Entry is free, and you can drop in without a ticket. Nine stalls offer dishes and sweets made with ayu, black edamame, Tanba chestnuts, game meat and more.

Vendors include Yakiniku no Tannokichi (steak, venison steak, stewed offal and tongue stew), Bistrot q (grilled Kyo-Tamba Kogen pork spare ribs), BAR GRESMO (Yura River wild ayu rice and ayu ajillo) and Hanko Cafe (chestnut canelés and mont blanc). There is also black edamame sold by weight and Tanba chestnuts for sale. Dropping by in the daytime, before the fireworks, could be a nice plan.

Nishida Kogyo, which owns the building, is working to make it a place open to the community. The following weekend, Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, the “Living Architecture Museum Festival Osaka 2026” (Ikefes, an open-building architecture festival) will also be held.
