Looking for a treat on your Awaji Island drive? A crepe made by a Japanese confectioner might be the answer. On Thursday, October 15, 2026, amaneya CASUAL, a wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) cafe inside the waSTEP AWAJISHIMA complex in Awaji, Hyogo Prefecture, switches to its autumn menu. The stars are two new versions of the “Tesuki Roll”, a Japanese-style crepe that pairs Japanese ingredients with Western-style sweets.
Two “Tesuki Rolls”: matcha and pudding
amaneya CASUAL is run by Amaneya, a popular wagashi shop in Himeji. Under the tagline “Make wagashi more casual and more beautiful”, it offers cafe items exclusive to the Awaji Island shop and sweets suited for gifts. The new rolls put that idea on a plate.
“Tesuki Roll – Matcha” (¥980, tax included) wraps whipped-cream espuma, matcha sauce, sweet red beans and matcha jelly in a matcha-scented crepe. It is finished with a soft snowfall of matcha powder and topped with strawberries.
“Tesuki Roll – Pudding” (¥950, tax included) is a lavish crepe topped with a whole Awaji Island pudding. Whipped-cream espuma, caramel sauce and “Kari”, brown-sugar karinto (fried dough sticks), are wrapped inside. You pour the caramel sauce on yourself at the end, so you decide how much to add and when to start.

Four soft-serve flavors, too
Soft serve made to bring out each ingredient’s flavor is also on the menu: “Milk Soft” (¥430), which suits children; the popular “Kari Soft” (¥450); the fragrant “Uji Matcha Soft” (¥480); and the toasty “Hojicha Soft” (¥450). All prices include tax. The shop says they work as a break during shopping or a drive, or as part of a sweets tour of Awaji Island.
For locals and visitors alike
amaneya CASUAL treasures the appeal of traditional wagashi while suggesting new ways to enjoy sweets in modern life. The shop says it also designed the Tesuki Roll to look so attractive that you will want to take a photo. It hopes both tourists and locals will drop in casually.
waSTEP AWAJISHIMA is a 7-minute drive from Awaji IC and 5 minutes from Higashiura IC. It is right after you cross onto the island by expressway from the Kobe side, so it is easy to stop at on a day trip.
