Art, in the middle of a shopping trip in Umeda. From Wednesday, November 4 to Tuesday, November 10, 2026, the art gallery on the 8th floor of Hanshin Umeda Main Store (a department store in Osaka) hosts “Atsushi Harada Exhibition: Sei wo Yuu” (roughly, “Binding Lives”), a solo show by oil painter Atsushi Harada. About 20 works, mostly new pieces, depict wild animals in a realistic style.

The dignity and beauty of wild animals, painted realistically

Harada paints animals that live in harsh nature, focusing on the dignity and beauty of their spirit with a realistic touch. The show centers on new works made with the wish to “look at living creatures with a warm gaze and give shape to the bond between them and us.” In the gallery, visitors can see up close the sense of movement created by his powerful draftsmanship.

The title “Sei wo Yuu” sounds like the painter’s hope to bind living things and people together.

The subjects range from a cat to a snow leopard, a horse and a tiger. Animals close to home and creatures from faraway lands are painted with the same gaze, and that is a highlight.
