Kobe Mikage’s “Mame Mugi Marche” makes its first appearance at Hankyu Umeda with mochi-barley ohagi and chips, Nov 4–10

One week only: some of Kobe Mikage’s most popular treats are coming to Umeda. “Mame Mugi Marche by Maruyanagi”, the concept shop of Maruyanagi Ogura-ya, known for steamed beans and simmered beans, will make its first appearance at “Discover Delicious Hyogo – Meet Food You Don’t Know Yet”, held in the Food Event Plaza on the B2 floor of Hankyu Umeda main store, from Wednesday, November 4 to Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

About 10 Hyogo companies at “Discover Delicious Hyogo”

About 10 companies with shops in Hyogo Prefecture take part, selling prepared dishes, sweets and fresh goods made with local ingredients. Mame Mugi Marche, a shop on the first floor of the company’s headquarters in Mikage, Kobe, is one of them, and items usually sold only at its shop will be on sale at Hankyu Umeda.

The shop uses “Kirari Mochi”, a mochi barley that Maruyanagi grows together with JA Minori in Kitaharima, Hyogo Prefecture. Built around this local ingredient, the products showcase the appeal of Hyogo’s food. It is a handy chance to pick up Hyogo ingredients while shopping in Umeda.

The signature “mochi-barley ohagi”, usually sold only at the shop

The highlight is the “mochi-barley ohagi”, normally sold only at the shop. Ohagi are Japanese sweets of rice wrapped in sweet red bean paste or soybean flour. Here, Kirari Mochi and glutinous rice are cooked half and half for a chewy, springy texture. The sweet bean paste is made with Hokkaido azuki beans and kept lightly sweet. There are two kinds: ohagi and kinako (roasted soybean flour) ohagi.

  • Mochi-barley ohagi (ohagi / kinako ohagi): ¥216 each (tax included)

Frozen mochi-barley onigiri “Kirari Musubi” and mochi-barley chips “Mugi no Suke”

“Kirari Musubi”, frozen rice balls that need only a microwave, come in five varieties. Each is individually wrapped, so you can take them home and keep them in stock. They are described as having the chewy texture of Kirari Mochi and a gentle sweetness like white rice.

The other item is “Mugi no Suke”, chips made from 100% mochi barley and finished without frying. They are baked in the shop’s own workshop, and the shop promotes their toasty flavor. Each bag contains 14.3 g of dietary fiber. Usually sold mainly at the shop and online, they come in three kinds: plain, “Kiwami Dashi” (rich broth) and curry.
